BMW N53 engines use an electric water pump. This pump is prone to failure.

Tonya brought us her 2007 525i after it began to intermittently over heat. We’ve diagnosed the issue as a failing water pump. We’ll be replacing the thermostat assembly at the time of service, since the thermostat is a critical part of the engine cooling system.
