You’ve already spent hard earned money on your Mercedes-Benz and you want to keep it well maintained. Having someone skilled and trained to work on your specific car is the key to keeping it running well. With a specialty vehicle like a Mercede-Benz, you want to be sure you’re meeting all your maintenance milestones with a trusted mechanic. What are those milestones? What does Mercedes service A and B mean? How do you find a mechanic who knows how to service a Mercedes? Finding an experienced and well trained mechanic should be simple.
Does my Mercedes need A and B Service?
Every vehicle needs regular maintenance. This means keeping up with oil changes, tire rotations, and performing necessary replacements like brakes when necessary. Mercedes-Benz vehicles have a specific set of suggested services to make sure they stay in top running condition. This set of services is called Service A and Service B. It is recommended that Mercedes owners follow this specific service schedule ensuring you’re getting the proper maintenance at the proper time for your vehicle. At Heads Up Automotive, we also recommended an interim oil change service every 5,000 miles. In theory, you’d bring your car in to be serviced every 5,000 miles alternating between A and B Services and your interim oil change. We believe that keeping your engine running with high-quality, clean engine oil stacks the odds in your favor for long-term performance and reliability.
What is Mercedes A and B Service?
Mercedes-Benz has developed a suggested service interval. All Mercedes-Benz vehicles have been created to operate based on this service schedule. Your first visit should be after you’ve driven approximately 10,000 miles. This could also be within 1 year depending on which comes first. This first round of maintenance is called Service A. After you drive the next 10,000 miles, or one year depending on which comes first, you’ll be due for the Service B round of maintenance. Essentially, you should be getting Service A every 20,000 miles (or 2 years) and then Service B on the opposing 20,000 miles alternating between the two.
Mercedes-Benz A Service
Service A is the first round of maintenance your car should get after you’ve driven your first 10,000 miles after purchasing the vehicle. Typically this should happen at the 1 year mark but it is recommended to do whichever is first: 10,000 miles or 1 year. This set of service maintenance includes a lot of routine maintenance like oil filter replacement, fluid level checks, brake inspection, tire check, and then resetting the maintenance counter. Keeping up with the typical maintenance necessities keeps your car running while ultimately keeping you and other passengers safe. Staying on top of maintenance as you go keeps your car in great condition. Finding a trusted mechanic who is trained to work on Mercedes-Benz vehicles is essential to keep your car running like it should.
Mercedes-Benz B Service
Following your A Service, you’ll need to schedule the B Service. These alternate every 10,000 years or year, whichever occurs first. On top of the typical routine maintenance performed with A Service, you’ll also have the cabin dust and combination filter replaced, and brake fluid exchanged. With these additional services added during B Service, you’ll want to plan for this to take a little longer than your A Service maintenance visit. Keep up with your maintenance milestones to optimize the performance of your vehicle, extending the lifespan, and overall resale value should that be necessary.
Interim Oil Change Service
While following the A and B Service intervals is important, at Heads Up Automotive, we recommend interim oil changes, too. On top of the recommended services within A and B Service, having the oil changed in your Mercedes every 5,000 miles will ensure quality and performance in your vehicle.
Common Mercedes-Benz Repairs
Along with specific A and B services and interim oil changes, there are other common repairs you should be prepared for when owning a Mercedes-Benz. Just like any other vehicle, there are essential repairs that come along with the general wear and tear of the car. Some common necessary services include oil leaks, coolant system repairs, charging and starting system diagnostic and repair, suspension checks, and replacements to your air conditioning and heating system. Like all vehicles, you’ll need to make some of these repairs. Any trained mechanic would be able to point out these necessary repairs allowing you to plan for the cost when it is outside of what you’re expecting.
